"My mom has a tendency to overexagerate. She does not listen to the context of what is said, just snippets." Leave it at that....all of us have a mother.

she was standing in the living room and she heard everything i said.. she called the elders that night to tell them what i said so they can counsel me.. i'm going to meet with them after the meeting on sunday!.

@ Heaven
What are you talking about? You say that Jesus Christ has not done a "damn thing." What about JW.ORG?!?! He's done that hasn't he? That's better than any other single thing he could have done! Wipe out death? Not even close. Wipe out sickness? Why when you can look at JW.ORG all day when you're sick? Wipe out poverty? You can afford to be poor in a world filled with JW.ORG.
It is the panacea that Jesus assured his followers. Remember what he says in Matthew 5, "Happy are those who yearn and cry out for wisdom, for JW.ORG belongs to them."

I am....The Governing Body was SOOO loving because they urged me to prepare a "Go-Bag"!!! When the you-know-what hits the fan, I know that although people will be clamoring in the streets and neighbors will be killing each other and people will be eating their own children because no food will be available, I will be ok cause I have a small first aid pack, soem bottled water, and a few energy bars, along with matches, a flashlight, hand sanitizer, and plastic bags to store my poop.
Thank you Governing Body for keeping my prepared!!!

What does the Bible REALLY teach?
by Separation of Powers inreally: "in actual fact, as opposed to what is said or imagined to be true or possible".
that is the definition..... now, if this book, as others posters have mentioned, is going to be updated to reflect "new doctrinal changes" then the book should be rejected on its lack of merit.

Separation of Powers
It is all about control. Publishers are tossing literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in literature every month. How do I know this? Well, I am extrapolating so bear with me.
I went to the dump to drop off some yard waste. I had to drive through the garbage area to get to the recycle, compost area. As I am driving through my kid says, "Dad, check it out. A ton of JW stuff!" Well, lo and behold, there is a pile of old mags and tracts, newer ones mind you, almost two garbage cans full just dumped out next to a bunch of other trash. I thought it was a great visible metaphor.

"You can't Disfellowship me ......."
by Phizzy inif i ever get the threat of being df'd i think i will say :.
" the religion i left a few years ago no longer exists, you can't disfellowship me from a religion that i never had fellowship in !"..
i know this will make no difference at all, as would whatever i said if they had made up their minds, but it would point out how very very silly the whole idea would be.. any other ideas to briefly sum up what a stupid thing dfing is ?.

Separation of Powers
You know, I think I would go the route of an attorney as a basis for not being disfellowshipped. I would probably get that letter that is floating around here somewhere. Afterall, I am not a danger to anyone. I am not causing divisions. I am not openly challenging anyone's authority. I am simply a voice in the wilderness that is the internet.

The Books That Redefined C.T. Russell's Beliefs
by Maat13 inaccording to wt history, as a youth/young man, ct russell was unsatisfied with a number of explanations he was taught about the bible.
as a result he went on a quest to 'study' the bible himself.
ultimately this led to an organization that now requires its members to read bible aids to help them understand the bible.

Separation of Powers
Good points Finkelstein. It is difficult to argue that he wasn't influenced by the Adventist movement when you see what drew him to Barbour in the first place. One can say that Barbour broke away from strict adventism later in his religious career, but it is obvious where he originally stood. To say that Russel was ONLY influenced by a particular set of views is to reject the religious fervor of the times. People like Mary Baker Eddy, Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, the Zionist movement, pyramidology, and mysticism. Heck, even the impact of someone like Houdini on the mindset of society at the turn of the century cannot be excluded from the consideration.
